Despite the tempestuous weather, one man had a remarkable day. In Southern California, a surfer seized the opportunity on Monday to navigate the inundated streets of Long Beach, riding his board while being pulled by a pickup truck, as captured in an exhilarating video.
“I felt the urge to get outside and surf,” Hayden De Leon shared with NBC 4. “I told my brother, ‘Hey, throw that truck into first gear, let’s do this.'”
De Leon mentioned that he donned a helmet for the more “dicey sections” of the ride but found that the “conditions were pretty good.”
He humorously noted, “The weather was pleasant, and the surf was great—no injuries to report.”
After his street surfing adventure, De Leon playfully suggested that it could qualify as a winter Olympic sport.
Following the ride, De Leon joked that “street surfing should be a winter Olympic sport.”

De Leon is no stranger to extreme sports, he told KTLA.
“It was a blast,” he said. “I grew up wakeboarding, surfing, snowboarding… so this just fit right into the abundance of fun you can have out here in Southern California.”
Monday’s flooding overwhelmed Los Angeles — halting traffic, stalling food delivery bots, and even stranding Waymos.
More rain is expected for the Los Angeles area on Tuesday.
