Authorities have distributed surveillance pictures of a dark-colored Dodge Journey, a four-door SUV, believed to have struck 22-year-old Herrera and her 21-year-old fiancé while heading north on Ashland Avenue.

Police said the driver killed Herrera and seriously injured her partner on July 19 before driving off.
The family informed ABC7 that the couple was scheduled to wed next month, as friends and family came together over the weekend to pay tribute to Herrera’s memory. They explained that gathering at the site of her tragic passing was part of their efforts to ensure that their pleas for justice are acknowledged.
“People don’t think and things happen and they hurt families and they think it is just fine just to be out driving crazy, reckless and it breaks people,” Francisco Herrera, the victim’s younger brother, said.

“How is there a life without her because we grew up together, we have a big family and each one of us had a special bond with her and with each other” Montes Barrera, the victim’s cousin, said.
Police said the suspected SUV will also have a broken right headlight and potential damage to the front right bumper.
