Tyler Robinson, the individual apprehended in connection with the murder of Charlie Kirk, is being kept under “special watch” until a mental health assessment is finished, according to officials on Sunday.

Robinson, aged 22, is under special watch status at the Utah County Sheriff’s Department’s special housing unit allowing officials to maintain close surveillance until a mental health evaluation is completed, as stated in a department release.

The process may take several days, the sheriff’s department said.

Once cleared, Robinson will continue with the classification process to determine where he will be housed while in custody.

Robinson was arrested following a 33-hour manhunt.

An earlier source from law enforcement informed Fox News Digital that Robinson’s father, who handed him over to the authorities, had informed the FBI he spotted his son in surveillance footage released during the search.

The source also shared with Fox News Digital that upon Robinson’s arrival at his father’s residence, he expressed suicidal thoughts. The father reportedly consulted with a minister the family knew prior to surrendering his son.

Utah Gov. Brian Cox told ABC News on Sunday morning that Robinson was not cooperating with authorities while in custody.

“He has not confessed to authorities. He is not cooperating, but all the people around him are cooperating. And I think that’s, that’s, that’s very important,” Cox told ABC News.

The governor said that Robinson’s family members and his romantic partner, a man who is transitioning from male to female, are cooperating with authorities. He added that those who know the 22-year-old say he was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.”
