A teenage boy has allegedly been caught trying to smuggle weapons into Marvel Stadium in Melbourne during the Swans-Bombers AFL clash.

The second security scare involving the code in the past month has prompted calls for greater vigilance.

Police said the 15-year-old didn’t have a ticket and tried to pass through security but was stopped.

He was searched by police who seized a fake gun and a knife, before being issued a caution and allowed to walk free.

State Sports Minister Steve Dimopoulous was asked if he thought he should have been charged.

“I want to respect the police decision on the day and the circumstances. They were there, I wasn’t,” he said.

Witnesses told 9News the teenager’s belongings were spread out as they were examined by police.

They said the gun looked real.

It was metal, black and even had an option to remove the magazine.

The AFL, which owns the stadium, hasn’t publicly commented but 9News understands the league is happy with its security measures

It’s the second AFL security scare in less than a month.

Two fans were tackled by police inside the MCG during the Collingwood-Carlton clash.

The scare prompted enhanced security measures.

“We need to ensure that security is there because you can create panic and if people think they can start to get away with going into these events with weapons, the consequences will be dire,” Opposition Leader Brad Battin said.
