According to a spokesperson from Joint Base Andrews, several individuals fell ill after a suspicious package was opened at the base around 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Medical teams on the base quickly responded and provided care to multiple individuals who reported feeling unwell. Officials confirmed that all affected individuals were in stable condition and were subsequently released.
“As a safety measure, both the building where the package was opened and an adjacent structure were evacuated, and a perimeter was set up,” the spokesperson told Fox News. “Responders from Joint Base Andrews arrived on the scene, found no immediate threats, and normal operations have since resumed. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.”

Authorities have yet to reveal the contents of the package or the source of the symptoms experienced by those affected. To ensure safety, the base underwent a temporary lockdown while emergency teams evaluated the situation.
The lockdown allowed both installation and emergency personnel to thoroughly assess and address the situation at the base.
