In a recent appearance on MS NOW’s “All In,” Representative Eric Swalwell from California made headlines with his bold declarations about potential actions he would take if elected governor of the state. During the conversation, Swalwell emphasized his intent to hold ICE agents accountable for any illegal activities, including potentially revoking their driver’s licenses should they be found guilty of committing crimes.
The show’s host, Jason Johnson, posed a thought-provoking question, asking Swalwell what his priorities would be if he assumed the governorship of California. Johnson highlighted the crucial role of state leaders in opposing certain federal policies, citing the examples of governors from Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, and Maryland. “California, with its sheer size and economic influence, is at the forefront,” Johnson noted, seeking to understand Swalwell’s vision for the state.
Swalwell responded by outlining the significant responsibilities and powers that come with being the governor of California. He stressed the importance of protecting the state’s most vulnerable populations. “If the president deploys ICE agents to pursue immigrants in their workplaces,” Swalwell stated, “I will ensure these agents are identifiable and accountable for their actions.” He detailed his plan to bring charges against agents involved in crimes such as false imprisonment, kidnapping, or assault, making it clear that accountability would be a priority under his governance.
