JetBlue flight makes emergency landing at Tampa Airport after sudden 'drop in altitude' injures passengers

A JetBlue flight en route from Cancun to New Jersey was compelled to make an emergency landing in Tampa on Thursday after experiencing a sudden “drop in altitude” that resulted in injuries to several passengers, according to a statement provided to Fox News Digital by the airline.

Flight 1230, an Airbus A320, was originally destined for Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey from Cancun International Airport in Mexico. However, the flight encountered an unexpected “flight control issue,” necessitating a diversion to the closest airport, as reported by the airline.

The aircraft safely touched down at Tampa International Airport at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to Fox News Digital.

Upon landing, JetBlue reported that medical personnel were on hand to assess passengers and crew members. Those requiring further medical attention were transported to a nearby hospital for additional care.

At this time, the airline has not disclosed the exact number of injuries or the severity of the conditions of those affected.

The aircraft has since been removed from service for inspection, JetBlue said.
