While it’s too early to officially name the Nets’ extraordinary lineup as the new Fab Five, the first squad in NBA history with five first-round draft picks from a single franchise is already forming a strong connection just before the summer league kicks off this week in Las Vegas.
Lottery selection Egor Demin, along with newcomers Nolan Traore, Drake Powell, Ben Saraf, and Danny Wolf, expressed excitement about establishing their unique presence while participating in a youth camp on Monday at Sunset Park in Brooklyn.
“We need to prove ourselves,” stated Wolf, the 27th pick from Michigan, the same place the iconic collegiate Fab Five freshmen began over thirty years ago. “The Fab Five is arguably one of the greatest college teams ever, so if we’re ever thought of as the NBA’s version, that would be amazing.
“But I’ll leave it up to you guys [in the media] to give us a nickname.”
