Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher took to social media for a social media post on who they believed is the best Premier League centre-back.

In a Sky Sports post, the former Premier League stars played ‘Winner Stays On’, a game in which you choose the winner out of two options, and whoever you choose remains for the next round until there’s a winner.

The opening option was England boss Gareth Southgate vs Ricardo Carvalho. Jamie Carragher chose Carvalho, who then faced Jaap Stam.

It was Arsenal legend Tony Adams who pipped Stam’s spot, before being knocked out by John Terry.

Rio Ferdinand faced John Terry, to which Carragher was quick to choose Terry over Ferdinand, with Henry quipping ‘that was quick!’

‘No they’re the two I’ve played with in the England squad. I’ve always said John Terry just ahead of Rio.’ Carragher responded.

John Terry was defeated by Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk, who also beat Nemanja Vidic and Vincent Kompany, with the Anfield ace securing the top spot.

Fans were quick to comment on the clip, with many agreeing on Virgil Van Dijk’s top spot, though some were divided.

‘VVD isn’t top five of all time’ one user wrote.

‘The disrespect van dijk gets is unreal, he’d look outstanding in any era’ another added.

‘What about Maguire?’ a user questioned.

‘Nemanja Vidic is the only right answer’ a fourth posted.

Virgil Van Dijk moved from Southampton to Liverpool in 2015 and has enjoyed an illustrious career at Anfield, recently scoring the winner in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup win.

Liverpool host title rivals Manchester City on Sunday in their next Premier League clash.
