The Rolling Stones ‘welcome Bill Wyman back to the band for first time in 30 years as bass player contributes to band’s upcoming album as tribute to late drummer Charlie Watts’

Bill Wyman has reunited with the Rolling Stones for the first time in 30 years.

The bass player has leant his talent to the band once again to pay tribute to their late drummer Charlie Watts, who died at the age of 80 in 2021.

Musician Bill, 86, will feature on one of the group’s tracks on their upcoming album after flying out to Los Angeles, California for a recording session.

He was invited by Sir Mick Jagger, 79, after Bill quit the Rolling Stones in 1993 after more than 30 years.

A source told The Sun: ‘Bill hasn’t seen the band together for years, but always loved Charlie.

‘This record’s really a tribute to Charlie, so he couldn’t say no.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for the Rolling Stones and Bill for comment.

Late drummer Charlie is set to feature on the band’s next album, Ronnie Wood recently revealed.

The legendary rock group have been working on their first LP of original songs for 18 years, and Ronnie said Charlie will be heard on the eagerly-anticipated record, which is expected to be released this year.

Ronnie spilled: ‘We are recording the new album now and we are going to LA in a few weeks to carry it on and finish it off. Charlie is on some of the tracks and drummer Steve Jordan.’

A source added to The Sun: ‘After Charlie’s passing there was some uncertainty about what to do next. They had stadium dates scheduled so pressed ahead, but afterwards it wasn’t clear what the future looked like.

‘But now they’ve had time to reflect they all feel it’s the right thing to keep doing what they’ve always done as a band, make new music and hopefully hit the road again to perform it to their fans.

‘They’ve had a knock in recent years, but the show goes on – and The Stones always do.’

The insider went on to add that the rockers are planning on a ‘major tour’ after the album, which will likely include countries in the US, South America and Europe.

New drummer Steve Jordan replaced Charlie on the drum kit for their 2022 Sixty tour, which marked six decades of the band.

The new album will be the first LP to feature new compositions by singer Sir Mick and Keith since 2005’s A Bigger Bang, although they did release single Living in a Ghost Town in 2020.

The band’s last album release was 2016’s Blue and Lonesome, which was comprised of cover versions.
