A suspect launched a shooting spree in Kentucky on Sunday, injuring a state trooper and later attacking a church, resulting in two fatalities among four victims shot.
Lawrence Weathers, Chief of the Lexington Police Department, explained that the incident began shortly before noon. A state trooper pulled over the suspect due to a license plate reader alert, which led to the suspect firing shots and wounding the officer. This occurred on Terminal Drive, just outside Blue Grass Airport, but was not connected to the airport itself.
“Some individuals heading to the airport stopped and helped the trooper,” Weathers noted. “Their actions were greatly appreciated, and I commend them for stepping in.”
The trooper was in stable condition and receiving medical treatment, police said.

Governor Andy Beshear made a post about the shooting on X, asking everyone to pray for the victims.
