Huntington Beach is Califorina’s best-run city, according to a new poll – and the right-wing beach enclave doesn’t have a single Democrat on its council.
The city of 200,000 people emerged victorious in the rankings thanks to its high quality of city services, education and healthy residents.
The ranking, compiled by WalletHub, was based on the overall operating efficiency of each city, including its total budget per capita and the quality of its services.
Six key categories were used to determine the quality of life on the West Coast, including education, health, safety, financial stability, pollution and infrastructure.
And Huntington Beach came out ahead in the ranking thanks to coming first in the state for its quality of city services.
The city came in 21st among WalletHub’s ranking of all the cities across the nation, a high placing not shared with other California metros on the list.
Huntington Beach’s seven-member council is comprised has been comprised entirely of MAGA Republicans since December 2024.
The worst city in California, according to the ranking, is also the worst found anywhere in America – San Francisco.
A byword for progressive excess and failure, San Francisco is notorious for homelessness, crime and open-air drug abuse.
It came last in WalletHub’s poll due to poor scores for safety, economy and pollution.

San Francisco ranked in last place in California and the whole of America due to its struggles with homelessness and crime
San Francisco was ranked 149th out of 149 cities in WalletHub’s list of all American cities, struggling under a sharp decline in recent years.
DailyMail.com toured the stricken downtown area in 2023 and found rows of closed down stores, crowds of homeless people loitering on streets and open-air drug taking.
Many blame soft-on-crime Democrat policies for facilitating the city’s decline in recent years, ultimately leading San Francisco residents to elect new mayor Daniel Lurie last year on promises to crackdown on the drug-infested streets.
While San Francisco struggled under Democrat leadership, those in Huntington Beach have shifted to conservatism in recent years, including filling its city council with seven ‘MAGA Republicans’ last year.
The seven councilmembers made headlines after their election by donning red caps reading ‘Make Huntington Great Again’, a nod to President Trump.

However, other areas of California have struggled to enjoy Huntington Beach’s level of city services and quality of life, with Oakland coming in second-last in the ranking.
Oakland, which sits just across a bay from San Francisco, scored poorly on safety, the economy, financial stability and pollution.
It endured similarly progressive policies to San Francisco, but recently booted out its progressive Mayor Sheng Thao and progressive District Attorney Pamela Price.
Replacements have yet to be announced, but residents are hopeful more centrist candidates will be chosen to help fix a city where one in 33 residents had their car stolen in 2023.
Other cities to also score poorly include Los Angeles, Long Beach and Riverside.
Ranking close behind Huntington Beach was San Diego in second place, which scored well for its education, health and safety categories.
Third place in the rank was Santa Ana, with Fremont and Anaheim rounding out the top five.
