A tragic incident unfolded in the city of Southport, North Carolina, on Saturday night when a gunman, firing from a boat, targeted a dockside restaurant—the American Fish Company—resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuring numerous others.

Information is still coming out as of this writing, but it is a disturbing scene:

Southport, NC was thrown into chaos on Saturday as a shooter opened fire from a white center-console boat at American Fish Company in the Yacht Basin, leaving 11 people wounded.

The attacker fled up the Intracoastal Waterway toward Oak Island. Police, SBI, ATF, and Brunswick County officials are leading a massive manhunt.

Although details are scant, here’s what we know at this hour:

According to reports, multiple shots were discharged from a passing boat into a dockside North Carolina restaurant on Saturday night, causing the death of three people and injuring several others.

Authorities indicated that a yet-to-be-identified vessel approached the American Fish Company restaurant in the Southport Yacht Basin around 9:30 p.m. and unleashed gunfire on unsuspecting patrons, as reported by the Star News.

The boat then fled up the Intracoastal Waterway with suspects still at large as of 10:30 p.m., according to City Manager Noah Saldo, as reported by the Star News.

Despite online rumors suggesting a suspect is identified, authorities have not confirmed any arrests and have advised residents to remain indoors:

They wrote in a Facebook post just before 10pm: ‘There are reports of an active shooter in the Southport Yacht Basin.

‘There is an unknown number of injuries. Avoid the area and remain in your homes. 

‘Please report any suspicious activity immediately to 911.’

The boat was described as a ‘white center console boat.’

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on social media that they were assisting the city of Southport with the incident.
