Minivan crushes man to death during repair work at Baymeadows apartment complex: JSO

Authorities in Jacksonville reported a tragic incident on Sunday evening when a man lost his life while trying to fix his friend’s minivan at an apartment complex in Baymeadows.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A routine car repair took a fatal turn, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, as a man died following a mishap with a vehicle.

Emergency services were alerted to the Vue at Baymeadows apartments around 8:15 p.m. after someone passing by discovered the man trapped and unresponsive beneath a minivan.

Rescue teams from the sheriff’s office and fire department managed to extricate the man and rush him to the hospital, where unfortunately, he was declared dead shortly after.

Witnesses noted that the man had been seen working on his friend’s minivan since around 5:30 p.m. that day.

The incident occurred when the jack, which was holding up the vehicle’s front end, became dislodged, causing the minivan to collapse onto him, the sheriff’s office explained.

The sheriff’s office says no foul play is suspected. Still, anyone with additional information on the incident is encouraged to reach out to police directly at 904-630-0500 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
