Woman dies after falling at least 75 feet while hiking in North Carolina

A woman lost her life this past weekend after she fell at least 75 feet during a hike near a waterfall in North Carolina, as reported by officials.

The authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Astrid Angelina Madrid Ticas, who fell on Sunday around 1:30 p.m. at Big Bradley Falls near Saluda, North Carolina, according to a Monday news release by Polk County officials.

“In this challenging period, Polk County expresses its deepest sympathies to Ms. Ticas’ family and friends,” stated the county.

The woman fell an estimated 75 to 100 feet and succumbed to her injuries. (Google Maps)

The incident on Sunday comes a week after another victim died at a different waterfall in the state. Yoseph Alabdulwahab, 25, drowned at the base of Steele Creek Falls in Pisgah National Forest, according to Burke County Emergency Services. Steele Creek Falls is about a 75-mile drive from Big Bradley Falls.
