The tragic aftermath of a violent incident in Rhode Island has claimed yet another life, as officials confirm the death of Gerald Dorgan, 75, the former father-in-law of the shooter, Robert Dorgan. Gerald’s passing comes nine days after his critical injuries sustained during the February 16 shooting at a high school hockey game, where his daughter, Rhonda Dorgan, and grandson, Aidan Dorgan, also lost their lives.
Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien expressed his condolences in a statement, saying, “We are heartbroken to learn that another life has been lost as a result of last Monday’s senseless shooting at Lynch Arena. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim’s family, friends, and all those impacted by this tragic act of violence.”
The shooter, Robert Dorgan, 56, reportedly aimed his attack at his own family, opening fire in the stands of the hockey game. His violent spree ended when he took his own life, subdued by courageous bystanders who intervened.
Linda Dorgan, Gerald’s wife, and family friend Thomas Geruso were also gravely injured and remain in critical condition, highlighting the far-reaching impact of this devastating event.
Robert Dorgan, 56, deliberately targeted his family when he started shooting in the stands at the high school hockey game before taking his own life when tackled by hero onlookers.
His ex-wife’s mother, Gerald Dogan’s wife Linda, and family friend Thomas Geruso were also left fighting for their lives.
Robert Dorgan had the same surname as his former in-law because his ex-wife was also a cousin.
The shooter recently underwent gender reassignment, and his trans identity and unhinged personality were a source of multiple family court battles leading up to the shooting.
Rhonda Dorgan — who is also Robert Dorgan’s cousin — claimed that her father Gerald Dorgan ordered him to leave the house after he underwent surgery in 2020, according to a police report.
