One person killed by fire in the Bronx

Tragedy struck in the Bronx on Tuesday evening as a fire claimed the life of one individual, according to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).

The fire ignited shortly before 9 p.m. on the upper floor of a two-story home located at 722 E. 168th Street. This location lies between Boston Road and Forest Avenue in the East Tremont neighborhood.

A swift response saw 60 firefighters and EMS personnel converge on the scene, managing to bring the flames under control shortly after 9:30 p.m.

At this time, the FDNY has not released additional details about the deceased.

An investigation by a fire marshal is currently underway to determine the cause of the blaze.

This tragic event is part of a grim week for New York City, which has experienced five fatal fires across various boroughs, including Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, the Upper East Side, and Roosevelt Island.

Four of five of the victims were older New Yorkers, in their 70s or 80s, and all were killed by fires that broke out in their apartments. At least two of the homes were heavily cluttered, according to the FDNY.
