In a tragic turn of events, a Bronx driver has been charged in connection with the Manhattan accident that resulted in the death of actress Wenne Alton Davis, known for her role in “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” law enforcement officials have confirmed.
On Monday, the NYPD announced the arrest of 62-year-old MD Abdul Shomuz. He faces a misdemeanor charge of failing to yield to a pedestrian, following the incident that occurred in Midtown on the night of December 8. The collision claimed the life of Davis, who was 60 years old at the time.
The accident unfolded as Davis was crossing Broadway at West 53rd Street shortly before 9 p.m. when she was struck by a black 2023 Cadillac XTC. The impact left her with severe head and body trauma.
Emergency responders quickly transported Davis, a native of Queens, to Mount Sinai West Hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.


Shomuz, who remained at the scene of the accident and was unharmed, now faces legal repercussions for his role in the incident.
Wenne Alton Davis, who performed under the stage name Wendy Davis, was recognized for her portrayal of a police officer in the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” which has won multiple Emmy Awards.
Her IMDb page includes nine other credits, including parts in the 2011 Michael Fassbender drama âShameâ and the 2004 short film âLadies Room.â
When she wasnât making appearances on screen, Davis worked full-time as a US Customs and Border Protection agent at John F. Kennedy International Airport, even powering through the recent government shutdown without pay.
Neighbor Davin Hatsengate told The Post he had no idea she moonlighted as an actress.
âShe was super friendly,â the 51-year-old said after she died.
âI didnât know she was an actress. I guess she just wanted to be a regular neighbor. Itâs terrible.â
