Kenneth Presgraves was reportedly instructed to avoid his residence prior to the incident that unfolded.
CALLAHAN, Fla. — A tense standoff lasting several hours concluded early Thursday morning in Callahan with the discovery of a deceased man inside his home, as confirmed by the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.
The individual, identified as Kenneth William Presgraves, reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The sheriff’s office stated that deputies were dispatched to Presgraves’ residence on Jessica Place around 4 p.m. Wednesday after he contacted them, alleging that his wife was “trying to cause more trouble for him.”
Earlier in the week, Presgraves had been arrested on charges of unlawfully installing a tracking device and stalking. Following this, a no-contact order was issued on Tuesday, barring him from coming within 500 feet of the home he shared with his wife.
Upon the deputies’ arrival to explain the court order, Presgraves reportedly became uncooperative. He then retreated and barricaded himself inside his home, leading to a standoff.
NCSO said its Special Response Team and crisis negotiators then responded to the scene, as negotiators made “multiple attempts” to persuade Presgraves to comply with lawful commands and exit his home safely.
During the standoff, Presgraves reportedly made several suicidal statements, including threats of “suicide by cop.”
Around 3 a.m. Thursday, NCSO said the Special Response Team went into Presgraves’ home and found him dead.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
