Jacksonville police investigating after man found shot, dead on side of road

Authorities reported that a man in his 30s was discovered with gunshot wounds on Catoma Street, just south of Timuquana Road, on Tuesday afternoon. A suspect has been taken into custody for questioning.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation following the death of a man who was shot and found by the roadside on Tuesday.

During a news conference on Tuesday evening, law enforcement officials shared that officers were dispatched to the 6200 block of Catoma Street, situated north of Ringhaver Park, in response to several reports of gunfire received shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, a man in his 30s, lying by the road with at least one gunshot wound.

A homicide unit representative stated that while a person of interest and several witnesses have been detained for interviews, no arrests have been made at this time.

Officials assured the community that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
