In a tragic turn of events, the esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were discovered dead in their Brentwood residence on Sunday, victims of a fatal stabbing. The Los Angeles Police Department has identified their son, Nick Reiner, as the primary suspect in this heartbreaking double homicide.

Nick Reiner, 32, was apprehended on Sunday evening and is currently being held without the possibility of bail, according to official reports from the LAPD.

Here’s a timeline of the fatal stabbings and Nick Reiner’s arrest:

The events leading up to this grim discovery began on Saturday, December 13. Sources informed ABC News that an argument broke out between Rob and Nick Reiner during a holiday gathering. Attendees at the party noted that Nick was exhibiting unusual behavior, contributing to an already tense atmosphere.

The following day, at approximately 3:38 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a medical emergency call on the 250 block of Chadbourne Avenue, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Initially, the victims were only described by the fire department as a man and woman, aged 78 and 68. However, as the police delved deeper into their investigation, the situation evolved from a death inquiry to a murder probe. Property records eventually confirmed that the residence belonged to Rob Reiner, solidifying the tragic loss of the beloved filmmaker and his wife.

Police launched a death investigation that later developed into a murder case, LAPD sources told ABC News, adding that property records showed the house belongs to Reiner.

During an unrelated press conference involving the FBI, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell mentioned Nick Reiner’s arrest and stated that he is the suspect in this double murder. He was relatively tight-lipped on the case to protect the investigation.

“We have our robbery homicide division handling the investigation. They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner,” McDonnell said.

The case is set to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.
