Tragedy struck at a child’s birthday celebration in Maryland on Saturday night when a vehicle reportedly crashed into the gathering, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to multiple others.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded in Bladensburg, a town in Prince George’s County, roughly six miles from Washington, D.C., according to reports from FOX 5 DC.
Authorities stated that the attendees were enjoying the party under a tent in the yard when, around 10 p.m., a driver suddenly veered into the crowd.
On Sunday, officials announced that the case is being treated as a fatal hit-and-run. The driver, a 66-year-old man, has since surrendered to the police.

The victim who lost her life was identified as 31-year-old Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez, a resident of Washington, D.C., while several others suffered injuries in the devastating incident.

In total, 13 other people were injured, including eight minors and five adults.
“Six of the juvenile victims have been treated and released and one has been admitted and is in stable condition,” Bladensburg Police Department said in a statement.
