Man suffocates teen girl, stabs her mother in unincorp. Lyons Township, Illinois attack in 6400-block of Joliet Road: prosecutors

UNINCORPORATED LYONS TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) — On Friday, prosecutors provided further information regarding a fatal attack in the western suburbs and a related police-involved shooting.

A man allegedly suffocated a teenage girl and stabbed her mother in unincorporated Lyons Township on Monday night, prosecutors said.

It happened at an apartment in the 6400-block of Joliet Road. That’s near the border of La Grange and Countryside.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office said one of their officers responded to a domestic violence call there around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

According to the sheriff’s office, an officer discovered a man holding a victim, who was wounded, at knifepoint. Another victim was found motionless and bleeding on the ground.

That’s when the suspect began stabbing the victim again, and the officer fired shots, striking him, the sheriff’s office said.

All involved, the two victims and the suspect, were transported to local hospitals, where their conditions were not immediately clear. Prosecutors mentioned that a teenage girl, who had been suffocated, was declared deceased.

Prosecutors said the suspect had a relationship with the girl’s mother, at one point.

Criminal investigation efforts are underway by the sheriff’s police detectives, while the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is assessing the shooting involving the officer.
