The driver, a 51-year-old man, was operating a white Nissan Pathfinder SUV. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered onto the sidewalk and collided with the pedestrian.

The injured man was promptly transported to Staten Island University Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead due to the severity of his injuries, according to police.

Following the incident, the driver remained at the scene. As of several hours later, no charges had been filed against him.

The identity of the victim has not been disclosed, as authorities are in the process of notifying his family.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad was probing the crash.
