HUGO, Okla. (AP) — A tiger at a big cat preserve in southeastern Oklahoma was involved in a fatal incident with an animal handler, the organization announced Sunday.
Growler Pines Tiger Preserve reported that Ryan Easley passed away on Saturday due to “an accident” with a tiger at their location near Hugo, close to the Texas border.
“This tragedy poignantly reminds us of the beauty and unpredictability inherent in the natural world,” the preserve expressed on its Facebook page. “Ryan was aware of these dangers, not from recklessness but from a place of affection. To him, the animals he cared for were more than just animals; he formed connections with them rooted in respect, attentive care, and love.”
All tours have been canceled until further notice, the statement said.
According to its website, the preserve is a private facility where visitors can arrange tours to view tigers and watch demonstrations on how the animals are trained and cared for.
