HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — A person was killed after the lawnmower they were riding flipped over near I-65 in Homewood Friday, police have reported.

At approximately 1:37 p.m., officers with the Homewood Police Department were called to the I-65 northbound off ramp at Oxmoor Road. Arriving on the scene, the victim was found dead from an accident on a lawnmower.

The HPD reports that the victim, who has not been publicly identified, was an employee at a private landscaping company that the city had contracted to mow the grass in the area.

“After interviewing witnesses, it was determined that the subject was operating a riding lawnmower on a steep embankment on the off-ramp of I-65 northbound at Oxmoor Rd,” the department wrote in a statement. “The subject was attempting to drive the lawnmower up the embankment when it flipped over, resulting in his death.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
