In a tragic turn of events, the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is mourning the loss of one of its own. On Saturday, Firefighter Patrick Brady, a seasoned member with 11 years of service, passed away while on duty. The announcement was made by FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker and Mayor Eric Adams.

The 42-year-old firefighter was engaged in battling a significant apartment fire in Brooklyn when he experienced a medical emergency on the rooftop, leading to cardiac arrest. Despite immediate efforts from his fellow firefighters and emergency medical personnel at the scene, Brady was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Commissioner Tucker expressed the collective sorrow felt by the department, stating, “The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. His commitment to public service was unwavering, and firefighting was part of his family’s legacy. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters as we all share in the grief of this great loss.”

Patrick Brady, a native of Queens, leaves behind his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who also serve as firefighters with the FDNY. His dedication to firefighting runs deep in his family, with several cousins and uncles also serving in the department.

Brady’s untimely death on November 8, 2025, while bravely confronting a blaze in Brooklyn, underscores the inherent risks faced by those who choose to protect and serve their communities. His sacrifice and service will not be forgotten.

Brady was a resident of Queens. He is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are also FDNY firefighters. Brady’s cousins and uncles also serve in the FDNY.

“Firefighter Brady came from a family of firefighters — all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers,” Mayor Adams said in a statement. “I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his wife, Kara, and his entire family during this difficult time.”
