A YOUNG bullfighter tragically lost his life after being struck by a charging bull in front of thousands of spectators.
Manuel Maria Trindade, aged 22, was killed during his first performance in Lisbon’s Campo Pequeno arena.
Video footage captures him advancing towards the massive 700kg bull in a bid to incite it to charge.
As the immense bull rushed towards him, Trindade attempted to latch onto one of its horns.
In an instant, the young man was hurled into the air, crashing against the arena’s wall.
Onlookers screamed in horror as Trindade lay motionless on the ground.
The other bullfighters eventually managed to bring the beast under control.
Paramedics tended to Trindade at the scene and were able to stabilise him initially.
He had suffered severe injuries to his head in the horrifying incident.
Trindade was rushed to São José Hospital and placed in an artificial coma.
But sadly, the brain damage was irreparable and he died on the morning of August 23.
He had been a promising young member of the São Manços amateur bullfighting group, according to local media reports.
The bullfighting world is reported to be in mourning over his death.
