A Miami-Dade deputy tragically lost his life in a shooting incident on Friday, prompting a significant police reaction across the area.
Deputy Devin Jaramillo, aged 27, was shot while attending to a car accident. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital but sadly did not survive his injuries. At a press briefing, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz described the incident, saying the deputy was “brutally attacked and murdered.”
“Today is profoundly difficult,” remarked Cordero-Stutz. “What transpired here in Miami-Dade County against our deputy is unacceptable, and today will remain a day of sorrow. I urge our community to pray for the family of our fallen deputy and for all of us, as we are a grieving family.”

The tragic event unfolded just before 4 p.m., near a warehouse located at Southwest 128th Street and 122nd Avenue. Deputy Jaramillo was responding to a car crash when the altercation occurred. Witnesses quickly dialed 911, and fellow deputies arrived to administer first aid before he was transported to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“He was a beloved son, brother, and friend,” shared Cordero-Stutz, reflecting on the loss.
“He’s a son, a brother and a friend,” Cordero-Stutz said.
“He gave his ultimate sacrifice defending us — his life — defending you,” the sheriff continued. “We need to say as a society we will not accept this. I’m grateful to the men and women who provide safety to our community every single day.”
