A tragic accident claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman on a motorcycle, who was struck by a car as she tried to overtake it on the left, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — On Thursday afternoon, the life of a Fort White resident came to a sudden end when she was involved in a fatal collision while riding her motorcycle, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The incident unfolded on County Road 778, a narrow, two-lane stretch of road located to the east of Fort White.
According to the FHP report, the woman was maneuvering her three-wheeled Harley Davidson in the westbound lane, trailing behind a 2009 sedan operated by a 17-year-old boy from Fort White. She attempted to overtake the vehicle within a designated passing zone.
Unfortunately, as she made her move, the teenage driver began to slow down, preparing to execute a left turn onto SW Fortune Way. This led to a collision between the car and the motorcycle.
Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, the woman succumbed to her injuries, as confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol.
An investigation by the agency is ongoing.
