The alleged attacker of a WA Labor figure, and Perth father, has walked free on bail today.

Authorities report that Tim Picton suffered an attack in the early morning hours yesterday. Allegedly, a stranger assaulted him in Northbridge, causing him to lose consciousness and subsequently hit his head on James Street’s pavement.

The 36-year-old was swiftly transported to Royal Perth Hospital, where he currently remains in an induced coma.

“Tim is a cherished father, husband, brother, and son, as well as a friend to countless individuals across Australia,” stated the Picton family in their message today.

“Our focus is solely on being by his side and supporting each other,” they added.

The family also expressed gratitude towards the emergency responders who came to Tim’s aid.

Meanwhile, WA Premier Roger Cook took to social media, expressing that the entire Labor team is keeping Tim in their thoughts.

With New Year’s Eve celebrations around the corner, police are warning against violent behaviour, saying split second decisions can have devastating consequences.

“The community is absolutely tired of seeing this level of violence,” WA Police Assistant Commissioner Martin Haime said.

“It’s completely unacceptable. This time of year should be about celebration and enjoyment, not fear of harm.”
