4 people shot, 2 killed in Mount Airy, North Carolina

In a tragic incident on Thursday, four individuals were shot in Mount Airy, North Carolina, with authorities confirming that at least two of them have succumbed to their injuries.

The Surry County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers arrived at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. local time. Out of the four people shot, two have been confirmed dead, while the conditions of the remaining two are still unknown.

Officials from the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, are currently on-site gathering evidence and conducting a thorough investigation, as stated in an official announcement by the bureau.

The Welcome Baptist Church, situated nearby, addressed the incident in a Facebook post, clarifying that the shooting took place across the street from their premises. The post reassured that all church members are safe and that the event was unrelated to the church.

Mount Airy, a small town in northwestern North Carolina, lies just a short distance from the Virginia border.
