Two teenage boys found themselves victims of gun violence while parked in a car in Suffolk County on a Monday evening, as reported by local authorities.
The unfortunate incident left a 17-year-old with a gunshot wound to his leg and a 15-year-old injured in his hand. The Suffolk County Police Department has chosen not to release their identities at this time.
Currently, there are no suspects identified or apprehended in connection with the shooting.
The teens, along with another male, were parked on Madison Avenue in Brentwood when a second vehicle, reportedly carrying at least three males, stopped in front of them around 7 p.m. As the investigation unfolds, police have detailed that an individual from this second vehicle exited and began shooting at the parked car, injuring the two boys.
In a desperate bid to escape, the teens drove approximately two miles south to Bay Shore before alerting law enforcement to the situation.
The injured boys were subsequently taken to a local hospital, where they received treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. Meanwhile, the vehicle carrying the assailants fled the scene in an unknown direction, leaving police without a clear understanding of the motive behind the attack.
Monday night’s shooting is the latest of several violent incidents involving teenagers on Long Island. Most recently, 19-year-old Amira McCleod was shot and killed at a house party in Hempstead in late November. Jacob McMillan, 18, was arrested about a week later and charged with second-degree murder in the shooting, which also wounded two other people.
