According to JSO detectives, a tragic incident unfolded overnight on Jacksonville’s Westside, resulting in the death of a toddler. The shooting occurred during a dispute among adults, and one individual fled the scene.
In Jacksonville, Florida, a heart-wrenching event led to the loss of a two-year-old boy’s life. Detectives revealed that a heated argument among adults escalated, culminating in a gunshot that struck and killed the child late on Sunday evening.
Authorities received a call just before midnight, directing them to a residence on the 1200 block of Labelle Street. Upon entering the home, officers discovered the young child, critically injured from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators indicated the firearm was discharged amid the altercation, tragically hitting the boy. Following the incident, one adult fled and remains unaccounted for. Details regarding this individual’s identity or their connection to the child have not been disclosed.
During the shooting, two other children, both under ten, were present in the home yet remained unharmed. Authorities report that the remaining adults at the scene are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Detectives said two other children under the age of 10 were inside the home at the time of the shooting, and no other injuries were reported. All other adults in the home are cooperating with authorities.
