Authorities in Kentucky are investigating an officer-involved shooting with a suspect who allegedly injured worshippers at a Baptist church.

In a statement on X, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) said it was investigating a Fayette County shooting that happened at 11:36 a.m. on Sunday.

The suspect, now deceased, reportedly escaped to the Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington following the incident. The shooting initially began at a separate location from the church.

“The suspect fired at a trooper and then escaped the scene, ultimately arriving at the Richmond Road Baptist Church, where KSP and Lexington Police Department were able to apprehend the suspect,” the post reported.

“Please keep all those affected by these senseless acts of violence in your thoughts, and express gratitude for the prompt actions taken by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police,” the governor stated.

“Details are still emerging, and we will share more information as available.”
