True Detective: Night Country unveils new trailer featuring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis ahead of premiere early next year

Jodie Foster and Kali Reis were seen in a new preview for the HBO series True Detective: Night County released Wednesday.

In the forthcoming frame of the series, which is slated to air January 14, Foster plays the role of Detectives Liz Danvers, while Reis plays Detective Evangeline Navarro.

‘When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace,’ HBO said in a summary of the forthcoming season.

It continued: ‘To solve the case, [Detectives Foster and Navarro] will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.’

The forthcoming season is set in Alaska over a 24-hour night period, with the first all-female pairing tackling the case.

In the opening of the clip, Navarro asks Danvers if she ever just wants to disappear from the area and ‘just walk out’ and ‘never stop.’

Danvers tells Navarro that ‘this is Alaska – nobody ever really leaves.’

In one frame, another member of law enforcement is seen commenting on the unlikely tandem: ‘I don’t know what the hell they’re doing together – I thought they hated each other.’

The two investigators are seen brushing off past differences and working together to solve the grisly crime in the cold, with Navarro confronting Danvers about withholding information at one point.

The forthcoming season also includes John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star LaBlanc, as well as Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, June Thiele, Diane Benson and Joel D. Montgrand.

Issa López is the the creative force behind the forthcoming season, as she’s the showrunner, and wrote and directed the six-episode iteration of the crime mystery series.

‘We are tremendously excited to return to the True Detective franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa López,’ HBO exec Francesca Orsi said.

The series returns to HBO for the first time in four years, and marks the first frame since HBO and True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto concluded their partnership, with Pizzolatto staying on as a producer.

The Night County season was initially slated to air this year, but was postponed to January as result of the WGA strike, HBO CEO Casey Bloys said at the Code Conference Wednesday, Deadline reported.

‘We put it in January because I wanted to make sure that we had Issa and Jodie Foster available to talk about it,’ Bloys said in reference to union rules that prohibit promotion of projects while a strike is ongoing.

True Detective: Night Country begins airing January 14 at 9/8c on HBO.
