President Trump and Elon Musk are scheduled to have a private conversation on Friday. This comes after White House staff hurriedly organized a phone call following the quick intensification of their public disagreement.
A White House official confirmed the two men would speak later Friday, without giving an exact time.
News of the call, first reported by Politico, came as Trump also tried to downplay his very public break-up with his once-close ally, Musk.
“Oh it’s okay,” Trump told the outlet when asked about the very public spat. “It’s going very well, never done better.”
“The numbers are through the roof, the highest polls I’ve ever had and I have to go,” he added as he touted his ratings.
The conflict began when Trump criticized Musk in the Oval Office on Thursday afternoon for openly opposing the administration’s expansive legislation, referred to as the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Threats quickly flew over government contracts and ended with the world’s richest man suggesting Trump should be impeached.
Musk went so far as to claim that the administration was keeping documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile, under wraps because the president’s name might appear in them.
“Time to drop the really big bomb: Trump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk posted on X.
The Tesla billionaire showed signs of backing down late Thursday after hedge fund manager Bill Ackman called for peace between the two men, saying the world would greatly benefit from their friendship.
“You’re not wrong,” Musk wrote in response to Ackman’s tweet.
