A man and a woman lost their lives in Danville on Friday evening in what police are considering a murder-suicide incident.
Authorities received a shots-fired alert around 5:57 p.m. on May 9 and arrived at the 200 block of Grace St., discovering a 32-year-old woman from Danville with “obvious gunshot wounds” lying in a residence’s front yard. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later declared dead.
Officers conducting the initial investigation gathered accounts from witnesses who reported hearing gunshots and saw a man with a handgun standing beside the woman. After the incident, the man entered the residence and hasn’t been seen since.
Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect but were unable to do so. The Danville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) then responded to the scene and made entry into the residence. Once inside, ERU members found a 60-year-old Danville man who was deceased with an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
At this time, the identification of the deceased individuals is being withheld pending notifications by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office. Additionally, the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office are assisting the Danville Police Department in this investigation.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing and no further information is available at this time. The department is asking anyone who has information on this incident to call them at 217-431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 217-446-TIPS.
