The truck driver accused of causing a fatal accident in Fort Pierce, Florida, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals, failed both English and road sign tests during the investigation, according to officials.

Harjinder Singh, who entered the U.S. illegally in 2018 through the southern border, secured a commercial driver’s license in California. His attempt to gain work authorization was denied by the Trump administration on September 14, 2020, stated Tricia McLaughlin, Homeland Security’s assistant secretary for public affairs.

The Department of Transportation indicated, “During the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s interview, the driver underwent an English Language Proficiency assessment, conforming to FMCSA guidelines.” The Department added, “The driver was unsuccessful, answering only 2 out of 12 verbal questions correctly and identifying just 1 out of 4 road signs accurately.”

Image provided by United States Marshals Service (USMS) San Francisco depicts Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old illegal alien from India arrested on August 16, 2025. Singh allegedly attempted an unauthorized U-turn in Fort Pierce, Florida, on Tuesday, leading to a collision that claimed three lives.

“Why not consult Trump regarding the driver’s federally issued work permit and entry into the country?” questioned the spokesperson. “Spoiler: it occurred in 2018 under Trump. Oops. He would have been eligible in any state. California adhered to federal law, which the President appears unfamiliar with.”

They also noted, “In fact, the driver was reissued an Employment Authorization (work permit) on April 9, 2025, and if my calculations are correct, this aligns with the current presidential term.”
