'You're stupid for asking me anything'

WASHINGTON — Representative Ilhan Omar, a prominent figure in the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, recently confronted a reporter regarding questions about alleged discrepancies in her financial disclosures. These discrepancies reportedly resulted in an overstatement of her net worth by millions.

Last May, Omar (D-Minn.) and her husband, Tim Mynett, initially reported assets ranging from $6 million to $30 million. However, a revised filing, highlighted by the Wall Street Journal last week, adjusted their reported wealth to between $18,004 and $95,000, citing accounting errors as the cause.

During a press encounter on Tuesday, a reporter from Lindell TV questioned Omar about these discrepancies. “Congresswoman Omar, previously you criticized me for inquiring about your financial disclosures. There are notable inconsistencies. Could you explain how such a significant mistake occurred?” the reporter asked.

Omar, visibly irritated, retorted with a sarcastic tone, “I think you’re stupid for asking me anything,” before dismissively adding, “I don’t want to tell you anything. Have a good day.”

“I think you’re stupid for asking me anything,” snapped the visibly annoyed Omar, a sarcastic smile plastered on her face.

“I don’t want to tell you jack s—. How about that? Have a good day.”

In September, the Washington Free Beacon revealed Omar’s net worth had skyrocketed by as much as 3,500% in 2024, based on the disclosure that she has since disavowed.

Mynett, a former political consultant, is involved in several businesses, including DC-based venture capital management firm Rose Lake Capital and a Santa Rosa, Calif., winery.

The winery listed assets worth between $1 million and $5 million in the 2024 disclosure and his Rose Lake Capital touted assets worth $5 million to $25 million.

Strikingly, Rose Lake Capital previously claimed on its website to manage some $60 billion in assets.

Omar filed an amended disclosure in response to questions from the Office of Congressional Conduct, showing the businesses as having no value once liabilities are factored in.

“The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire,” Omar spokeswoman Jacklyn Rogers told the Journal. “The congresswoman amended her disclosures voluntarily as soon as the discrepancy was identified.”

“Ilhan cannot escape accountability much longer. Investigations are ongoing in House committees. The Trump administration has waged war on fraud,” House GOP Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) told reporters Tuesday.

“If Ilhan Omar is discovered to have been involved in any or to have benefited in any way from any fraud, she must be held accountable,” he added. “By the way, that includes marriage fraud.”
