Pima County Sheriff's office at center of Nancy Guthrie case spotlighted on new TV show 'Desert Law'

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is under the spotlight as a new TV series documents their daily endeavors amidst the ongoing and challenging probe into Nancy Guthrie’s abduction.

Launching in early January on A&E, “Desert Law” grants viewers a “premier look into one of the largest sheriff’s departments in the nation” by spotlighting the routine responsibilities of deputies in Arizona, according to the network’s statement.

The series captures the intense and perilous nature of law enforcement under the desert stars, offering a glimpse into a realm where echoes of the Old West still resonate, and the relentless pursuit of justice persists.

In preparation for the show’s inaugural and second seasons, filmed consecutively in 2025, cameras tailed the department’s patrol deputies, nocturnal investigators, and DUI units as they tackled various incidents throughout the county.

While Sheriff Chris Nanos doesn’t appear on camera, he played a pivotal role in coordinating with producers to streamline the production process, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The latest episode, aired on Wednesday night, highlights the complexities of maintaining law and order in Arizona, a state known for having “some of the most permissive gun regulations in the nation.”

Last week’s episode featured “Deputy Pool” arresting an “alleged DUI speeder with kids in the car,” in the blistering desert heat.

The show’s rollout comes as the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI have led an investigation into the kidnapping of the 84-year-old mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and A&E did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

Nancy was last seen on Jan. 31 and was reported missing the next day.

Several pieces of DNA evidence and even footage of Nancy’s alleged armed, masked kidnapper have been uncovered by investigators, but there are still no suspects in the case in its third week.

Authorities have cleared all members of the Guthrie family as possible suspects in the investigation.
