During a segment on Fox News Channel’s “The Story” aired on Tuesday, Matthew Whitaker, the U.S. Ambassador to NATO, remarked that Vladimir Putin has never admitted to the excessive loss of life in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Whitaker highlighted that Russia, unlike other nations, seems to endure staggering casualties without acknowledgment, suggesting that such a level of human loss would be unimaginable for any country other than Russia.
Host Martha MacCallum questioned, “Is Putin the only leader who hasn’t expressed dismay over the immense loss of life, particularly involving young soldiers from both Russia and Ukraine? Has he ever admitted that the death toll is too high and signaled a willingness to negotiate peace?”
Whitaker replied, “No, he has not. Historically, Russia has never shown a willingness to recognize such losses. The scale of casualties, which might reach millions, is something no other nation would tolerate, except Russia. Despite these tremendous losses, they pursue minimal, if any, battlefield achievements. We must confront this reality. I believe this is where President Trump excels; amidst the chaos, death, and destruction, he remains open to exploring peace negotiations and seeking a resolution.”
