The recent Verzuz rap battle, a showdown between Cash Money Records and No Limit Records, stirred excitement but also left fans with questions about the absence of one of hip-hop’s biggest stars, Lil Wayne.
In an illuminating interview with “The Breakfast Club,” rapper B.G. shed light on why Lil Wayne did not attend the much-anticipated event in Las Vegas on October 25. According to B.G., Wayne’s absence was due to an unexpected health issue that required medical attention. The “A Milli” rapper wasn’t feeling well and consequently needed to visit the hospital.
“The morning before the Verzuz, Lil Wayne wasn’t feeling good,” B.G. explained during the Friday interview. “He had a concert scheduled at Drai’s that same night, but he had to cancel it too due to his health.”
The Verzuz event, which promised to be a highlight for fans of both hip-hop labels, was expected to feature not only Wayne but also other prominent members of the New Orleans group, The Hot Boys, including Juvenile.
B.G. expressed that Wayne’s health incident was unplanned, saying, “He was definitely supposed to be there. Unfortunately, he had to go to the hospital or something like that.”
While Lil Wayne’s absence was felt, the event proceeded with energy and nostalgia, showcasing the enduring impact of both Cash Money and No Limit on the rap industry. Fans hope for Wayne’s swift recovery and future appearances on the Verzuz stage.
“I told him, man, we ain’t spring chickens no more, man,” he added. “You got to make sure, man, you’re healthy…get your rest, man. You’ve been running 30, 35 years strong. He was dealing with some personal issues.”
The Hot Boys rapper also explained that Swizz Beatz was “even hurt” by Wayne’s cancellation because he played a huge part in securing the event.
“That’s the reason Swizz even pulled the trigger on it in the first place,” B.G. said.
