Michael Proctor, a former Massachusetts State Trooper dismissed last month due to his involvement in the Karen Read investigation, has been listed as a witness for her second trial, according to court documents released on Monday.
During her first trial, which resulted in a hung jury, jurors expressed disapproval at Proctor’s testimony. Text messages presented in court revealed that he referred to Read in derogatory terms, such as a “wack job” and a “babe… with no a–,” and used an offensive slur. He also wished she would take her own life and joked about searching her phone for nude photos.
He was the lead investigator into the death of Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, Read’s boyfriend at the time of his death, in January 2022.
An autopsy found the cause of his death to be blunt force trauma to the head and hypothermia.
O’Keefe suffered skull fractures, brain bleeding, swollen black eyes, and cuts to his right arm. However, the forensic pathologist has not conclusively deemed it a homicide, instead leaving the manner of death as undetermined.

The second trial begins Tuesday.
