This crucial 8-inch water main supplies water to the Dixmoor community, impacting an estimated 800 to 1,000 people. Officials note that this incident marks the sixth water main break in the area since Wednesday.

Repair crews are currently addressing the break, which is positioned beneath railroad tracks, complicating the repair efforts.

ABC7 has spoken with several residents who reported experiencing issues such as low water pressure, with water barely flowing from their taps since Saturday.

As the repair work continues, water service has been completely shut off. Officials announced around 5 p.m. that the repairs could take five to six hours to complete, and they plan to distribute bottled water directly to residents’ homes.

Dixmoor water main breaks have popped up several times in recent years as local officials continue to advocate for more funding to fix the old infrastructure that is at the root of these issues. Residents say they are quite tired of this.

Officials did not immediately provide further information.

This is a developing story. Check back with ABC7 for updates.
