It started when someone stole a purse near West 72nd Avenue on the city’s Upper West Side. The mounted officer and his horse, Kelly, chased the suspect through the streets.

“Stop! Police,” the officer shouts. “Stop running!”

With the help of a bystander, the officer recovered the purse and arrested the suspect.

Commenters on the NYPD post on Facebook had some fun responses to the body camera video.

“I was waiting for someone to say, ‘I’ll head ‘em off at the pass!’” said one.

Someone asked whether the suspect thought they could outrun a horse, and another wondered how much “horse power” the suspect thought they had.

“Did the officer say why the long face when she got caught?” asked another.
