WALMART is scrambling to retrieve a popular home item after it was linked to multiple fire incidents and burn injuries.

The product, sold exclusively online, is now under a nationwide recall.

The MaxKare Electric Blanket was produced by the China-based Shenzhen Yumo Commerce and Trade Corporation and was available for purchase from June 2021 to November 2024.

Consumers were alerted to the recall of the electric blanket in an announcement released by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Yumo received 34 reports of the blankets overheating, including two cases where the product caught on fire.

There were also three incidents where people were burned.

The recall has affected 8,650 electric blankets sold at Walmart.

According to the release, the blankets have six heating levels and a nine-hour auto-off function.

The products, which are machine washable, are made by Yumo and had been sold exclusively online at Walmart.

They came in three sizes: twin (62″ x 84″), full (72″ x 84″), and queen (84″ x 90″).

The brand name MaxKare and model number are printed on a tag sewn into the blanket, officials said.

Only three model numbers are affected: HB18A-7284-1, HB18A-8490-2, and HB18A-6284-1.

Prices ranged from $27 to $80, depending on the size of the blanket, and were available in two colors: brown and gray.

Shoppers are being told to stop using the blankets immediately.

It has also been recommended that consumers contact Yumo directly for proper disposal instructions.

The recall was triggered after several reports of overheating and blankets catching on fire.

FIRE SAFETY RECALLS

Earlier in June 2025, Anker Innovations recalled the Anker 321 Power Bank.

Anker launched a recall of one of its power banks after discovering a fire hazard linked to defective lithium-ion batteries.

The issue affects the A1112 Anker 321 Power Bank (PowerCore 5K, Black), which may contain batteries prone to overheating due to a manufacturing flaw.

The company said the battery defect could lead to melting plastic, smoke, or even fire in some cases.

Anker stated, “Even though only a limited number of batteries could be impacted by this problem, we are proactively contacting customers who bought the product from March 1, 2023, to June 6, 2024, to initiate a Recall program.”

Anker alerted the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and has been working with the agency on the recall process.

Customers can verify whether their device is affected by checking the serial number (SN).

If the power bank contains one of the recalled battery cells, Anker will provide a free replacement.
