As RedState reported, there was a mass stabbing incident at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, on Saturday.

Authorities report that at least 11 individuals were injured, with six in critical condition and five seriously wounded at the time of this report, after an attacker, who is currently in custody but has not been identified, launched his assault around 4:45 pm local time near the checkout area. All the injured were taken to Munson Medical Center nearby for medical care, with some allegedly requiring surgical procedures.

The attacker, described as a 42-year-old local resident, carried out “random” assaults with a “folding-style knife.” He was detained partially due to the efforts of “citizen involvement,” according to Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael D. Shea.

“This entire situation was handled cooperatively, right from the beginning to, as I mentioned, the involvement of citizens, and thankfully, no additional individuals were harmed. Eleven victims are eleven too many, but we are grateful it wasn’t worse,” Shea commented during the press briefing:

In an update on this story, video of that citizen involvement has been shared by local media outlets and shows an armed man and other bystanders courageously confronting the suspect in the parking lot of the Walmart, demanding he drop his weapon.  Also shown in the video are other shoppers who appear to be trying to provide aid and comfort to one of the victims.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office arrived a short time later and took the suspect away in handcuffs. No motive has been given.

Warning: Some footage may be disturbing to some viewers:

These people undoubtedly saved lives.

As we also reported, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino noted on X that “FBI personnel are responding to provide any necessary support.”

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to RedState for updates.
