Neighbors fear for safety after man shot in face in car on Jacksonville’s Westside

A man in Jacksonville narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation after being shot in broad daylight, causing unease within the Normandy Estates community as authorities intensify their search for the perpetrator.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the man was shot in the face while inside his car during daylight hours on the Westside of Jacksonville, and is now on the road to recovery.

The incident occurred shortly after 4:15 p.m. on Monday along the 1600 block of Guardian Drive, situated in the Pinecrest neighborhood.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered an adult male with a facial gunshot wound. Reports indicate that while the victim was in his vehicle, an unidentified shooter fired shots and subsequently fled the scene. Authorities have not yet provided a description of the suspect.

The injured individual was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is recuperating from injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

In the aftermath, First Coast News engaged with several residents, who recounted the terrifying moments that followed the shooting and the anxiety it instilled in the community.

One neighbor told First Coast News the shooting happened right beside her home, and she heard every gunshot. She told our crew her security camera captured the victim getting into his car, reversing, and being shot at.

As the gunfire continued, she said the vehicle rolled uncontrollably into the side of her house. The woman became emotional while describing what she witnessed.

Other neighbors say the sound of gunfire immediately caught their attention.

“It was louder than usual, which is why it alerted me,” said neighbor Timothy Sarge.

Police blocked off the street leading into the neighborhood for hours.

“It was 9 o’clock when they start let people actually go home, those people parked over there for hours,” Sarge said.

Residents say the violence has left them concerned about safety — especially with children often playing in the area.

“I just have my nephews live here, so I just worry about their safety because they, they play on the street. Literally, we just stand like right here and watch them go on the little cars or whatever, so that’s all I would worry about,” Sarge said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the case remains an active investigation and detectives are still working to identify the suspect.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.
