So, What's In the Big, Beautiful Bill?

Much has been discussed regarding the “Big, Beautiful Bill” currently navigating its way through Congress. My colleague and friend Susie Moore has been diligently updating us on its progress and, more recently, its stalling.

Amidst all this commotion, it’s important to pause and examine the details of this bill. On Friday, the White House sent out a press release outlining some of these specifics – and they are indeed big, beautiful details. Here are a few key points.

1. It’s the largest tax cut in American history.

  • It delivers PERMANENT tax cuts and bigger paychecks. This means an extra $5,000 in Americans’ pockets with a DOUBLE-DIGIT percent DECREASE to their tax billsAmericans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 will pay around 15% less in taxes.
  • It includes NO TAX ON TIPS and NO TAX ON OVERTIME. This makes good on two of President Trump’s cornerstone campaign promises and benefits hardworking Americans where they need it the most — their paychecks.
  • It provides historic tax relief to Social Security recipients. It slashes taxes on seniors’ Social Security benefits.

In the realm of politics, nothing is set in stone. However, legally establishing the Trump tax cuts without a sunset clause is a worthy pursuit. Without this bill, any future Congress led by Democrats could simply opt not to renew or extend them, effectively creating a de facto tax increase. But if this bill is enacted into law, it ensures that a future Congress cannot nullify it through inaction; they would have to initiate a debate, conduct a vote, and each member would have to record their position, with all the implications thereof.

2. It protects Medicaid for Americans by removing 1.4 million illegals.

  • It kicks illegal immigrants off taxpayer-funded Medicaid benefits. This bill eliminates waste, fraud, and abuse by ending benefits for at least 1.4 million illegal immigrants who are gaming the system.

This is long overdue. Illegal aliens must be afforded no government benefits other than immediate life-saving emergency medical care. We are not savages, after all.

3. It makes President Trump’s border security permanent.

  • It funds President Trump’s border wall. As a result, 701 miles of primary wall, 900 miles of river barriers, 629 miles of secondary barriers, and 141 miles of vehicle and pedestrian barriers will be constructed — along with cutting-edge technology that will secure our homeland for generations to come.
  • It boosts Border Patrol and ICE agents on the frontlines. It will empower border officials with adequate resources to finally carry out their core mission by funding at least one million annual removals and hiring 10,000 new ICE personnel, 5,000 new customs officers, and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents.

Again, nothing in this world is permanent; neither a leaf nor a tree, nor a presidential administration policy, nor an act of Congress. But as with the tax cuts, this legislation would make it harder for a future, illegal alien-friendly Congress to undo. Democrats will, presumably, overcome their current insanity and find more mainstream candidates they can get elected; if there’s one thing we can count on, it is that this pendulum will never stop swinging.

4. It finally modernizes air traffic control.

  • It fulfills President Trump’s plan to completely overhaul the systems that keep Americans flying safely and efficiently. This will allow President Trump to update our air traffic control systems and act where the Biden Administration failed (despite repeated warnings).

Now this is a bigger issue than one might think. Millions fly the friendly skies in the United States every year, and several recent, high-profile incidents have shown us precisely how bad our air traffic system is. This is also a legitimate role for the federal government, as it’s a nation-spanning function, and what’s more, the Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy seems the right guy to get it done.

5. It ends taxpayer-funded sex changes for minors.

  • The One, Big, Beautiful Bill restores sanity to government. It prohibits Medicaid funding for gender transition procedures for minors.

It would be best to see sex changes for minors proscribed completely; it’s a major violation of the medical ethics principle primum non nocere, as well as not recognizing that minors cannot give fully informed consent. But at the very least, the taxpayers shouldn’t be on the hook for this, for anyone, minors or otherwise.
